One of the things I would really like to include in our film is music.
It would be great as background music throughout the various chapters of the story. If it comes up with Moniem (or others) then maybe find ways of including video footage of musicians performing. Maybe a musician who was connected with those times in some way, that Moniem and the people loved.
We should talk about this with him during an interview, especially because he has never talked about it before. "Tell us about the music scene in Khartoum and Sudan during that time. How did things change for musicians during the regime change? Was there a thrust towards performing more Islamic music? How are things for them now? Who were the musicians that people liked? Can you sing for us?!"
We can intersperse clips off youtube of these musicians performing, while Moniem is talking about them.
We could also check if there is anyone in the group who sings or is a musician. If they wouldn't mind ask them to sing a song for the film. (We include subtitles of the words).

Yep - really important for mood and context- will help it be uplifting
ReplyDeleteYes. And also clips of someone performing will make the film more lively.
